Obama Can’t Speak French Or Spanish, But He’s Memorized The Islamic Call To Prayer

The Obama’s Gaffes blog has about the same reaction to the New Yorker cover that I did, and reminded me of this Nicholas Kristof story from last March, in which “In a free-ranging interview with the New York Times, Obama described the Muslim call to prayer as ‘one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.’ The Times’s Nicholas Kristof wrote, Obama recited, ‘with a first-class [Arabic] accent,’ the opening lines of the Muslim call to prayer. ”

Pretty good for a guy who can’t really speak any foreign language.

The part about “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset” is just nostalgia–the Muslim call to prayer is annoying when it’s not frightening. This is especially true since the muezzins got hold of loudspeakers in the 1950’s. Here’s more of Kristof’s fantasizing about how sophisticated Obama will be as a result of childhood foreign travel:

In foreign policy as well, Mr. Obama would bring to the White House an important experience that most other candidates lack: he has actually lived abroad. He spent four years as a child in Indonesia and attended schools in the Indonesian language, which he still speaks.

“I was a little Jakarta street kid,” he said in a wide-ranging interview in his office…He once got in trouble for making faces during Koran study classes in his elementary school, but a president is less likely to stereotype Muslims as fanatics — and more likely to be aware of their nationalism — if he once studied the Koran with them.

Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it’ll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as “one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.”

I've been aware of the article in the NYT for a while now, and I have to work hard to keep from vomiting when I hear of it.
The whole point of the New York magazine cover is to mock anyone who dares to question who exactly Obongo is. And that in of it's self is so cynical.

Obongo has a wafer think resume. He hasn't been a household name for even a year yet, and the American people have no right to question his motives, and his experience and yes his religion without being called racists, or worse?

HE made a point of being called BARACK and not Barry. HE made a point going to that weird church that honored Farakoon. HE makes a point of spelling out how fond he is for the sound of the Muslim call to prayer, and HE makes the point changing the tone of his voice to fit his audience (more black around nigs, more white around people).

We, the American people have EVERY right to presume that if he felt that he had a chance of being elected as a Muslim, that that's the religion that he would choose. That's the vibe that I get from him, and he's changed his mind so often, and has by his own admission may I add, struggled with identity for most of his life. I think that it's PERFECTLY reasonable to assume that he is closer in his heart to being a Muslim than he is a Christian. And that's ok. I don't really care. What I do care about is that he's a liar.

I also completely resent the MSM for trying to bully the American public into ignoring the evidence that HE'S presented to them (in that NYT article), and into believing that they must be racist if they believe what their own eyes and ears have told them.
