Brandon Payton was 15 years old when the shooting happened in October at a store at 86th Street and Ditch Road.
He was charged with attempted robbery and robbery, both felonies. Payton initially pleaded not guilty, but apologized for the crime at his sentencing, RTV6's Derrik Thomas reported. Marcella Birnell, 45, was critically injured in the shooting and is recovering slowly in rehabilitation. She had portions of her skull removed and her brain was damaged
