It came close; my Father was at Trieste, and told us about how Tito's partisans began a campaign in the area. Worse, the Allies couldn't defend the Italian people because they were worried WW3 might break out if Russia stepped in. The Partisans knew this, and abused the Allied soldiers and even the Nepalese Gurkha troops - which turned out to be a fatal mistake in the case of more than a few.
He mentioned the NZ troops watching as Italian teenagers fired the rocket launchers and other heavy weapons harmlessly into the hills after the War.
However, I think that this vision of the '50 era is way too optimistic. As I read, there where corrupt politicians, scammers, Ponzi schemers, immigration from Europe and rampant unemployement...
Quite possibly, but the idea is to convey what we've lost since then as a result of deliberate Government policy.
At least then the newspapers, the Police could do something about Crooked politicians and Judges - and there were many. There was a judge who let go a connected Crook who'd killed a Cop regardless of a mountain of evidence; kinda like today, with our judges disregarding evidence of how bad Niggers are. The difference was, the newspapers didn't let it go, they hounded the Judge until he was removed. That would never happen today.
